GARCÍA NUÑO. EL CHICO S.L. is a traditional Spanish, family-run charcuterie with more than 60 years of experience – and in need of comprehensive automation. This project is a first step towards industry 4.0 technology. The ultimate goal is to modernise, monitor and optimise manufacturing and commercial processes without compromising the charcuterie’s traditional character.

The project will provide a 360° vision of the company and facilitate the first step towards digital transformation. Processes will be analysed, optimised and redesigned, creating the foundation for later implementation of smart technologies in line with industry 4.0 principles.

In the short term, the priority is the implementation of an enterprise resource planning (ERP) system to help automate and manage the business in a more modern and innovative way. In the medium-long term, the company will try to incorporate new basic enabling technologies for Industry 4.0.

The project is being conducted in collaboration with CTIC Technology Centre.

Final report summary
The project has generated three outputs. First, the technological situation of the company has been assessed so the digital transformation process can be tailored to needs and objectives. Second, a comprehensive analysis of processes and workflows was carried out to facilitate the optimisation of manufacturing and marketing processes. Thirdly, a series of technology assets and a roadmap were recommended to help define a short, medium and long-term strategy.

This comprehensive process analysis is the first step towards the implementation of an ERP system that will automate and manage the business in a more modern and innovative way. Over the next few years, work will focus on implementing technological assets such as automatic and scalable data acquisition systems or artificial intelligence that supports decision-making.
